GAME Engine (Orange Bulletproof Kids) propone un’esplorazione stimolante e a più livelli dell’intersezione tra gioco e realtà. L'ultima opera di Søren Thilo Funder, nata come installazione immersiva e qui presentata come un video a canale singolo, porta lo spettatore in un luogo segreto, dove può assistere a un incontro esclusivo con un noto game designer. Attraverso la prospettiva di un portavoce, l’opera offre uno sguardo su un nuovissimo motore di gioco che promette un’esperienza di gioco rivoluzionaria, con dettagli avvolti nella segretezza per proteggere il suo valore di proprietà intellettuale. Mentre il portavoce ricorre a manovre evasive per evitare di divulgare troppe informazioni, il pubblico è condotto in un contesto in cui i confini tra il mondo fisico e quello virtuale iniziano a sfumare. Accanto a questa intrigante narrazione, l’opera presenta anche un gruppo di atleti di CS:GO che usano il loro corpo come veicolo di memoria motoria e visiva per ricreare le loro esperienze di gioco. Mentre le loro azioni confondono i confini tra realtà e virtualità, GAME Engine (Orange Bulletproof Kids) solleva importanti domande sul rapporto tra sensorialità e informazione e sui modi in cui il gioco influisce sulla comprensione del nostro corpo.
GAME Engine (Orange Bulletproof Kids) offers a thought-provoking and multi-layered exploration of the intersection between gaming and reality. The latest work by Søren Thilo Funder, this immersive installation hereby presented as a single channel video, takes the viewers on a journey to an undisclosed location, where they are invited to an exclusive press meeting with a game developer. Through the perspective of a spokesperson, the work offers a glimpse into a brand new game engine promising a revolutionary experience, with details shrouded in secrecy to protect its intellectual property value. As the spokesperson employs evasive maneuvers to avoid divulging too much information, the audience is taken on a complex journey where the boundaries between the physical and virtual worlds begin to blur. Alongside this intriguing narrative, the work also features a group of CS:GO athletes who use their bodies as vehicles for motoric and visual memory to recreate their game experiences. As their actions blur the lines between reality and virtuality, GAME Engine (Orange Bulletproof Kids) raises questions about the relationship between the sensorial and the informational and the ways in which gaming impacts our understanding of the corporeal.

Artista specializzato in video e installazioni, Søren Thilo Funder crea opere che stimolano la riflessione e che mescolano tropi culturali, questioni socio-politiche e fiction popolari. Queste costruzioni narrative operano all’interno di una delicata membrana in cui finzioni e realtà si intersecano, generando nuove interpretazioni e nuovi significati. L’opera di Funder è intrisa di storie scritte e non scritte, nonché di una profonda consapevolezza dei paradossi e delle complessità dell’impegno sociale. La sua arte esplora gli spostamenti temporali, la narrazione non lineare e l'emergere di nuove forme di memoria non convenzionali. Attraverso il suo lavoro, Thilo Funder crea spazi immersivi che consentono incontri imprevedibili con la politica, il tempo e la memoria. Funder ha conseguito un master presso la Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts e la School of Art and Architecture dell’Università dell'Illinois a Chicago. Attualmente sta concludendo un dottorato di ricerca artistica presso l’Accademia d’Arte, Dipartimento di Arte Contemporanea dell’Università di Bergen in Norvegia.
An artist who specializes in video and installation, Søren Thilo Funder, creates thought-provoking works that blend various cultural tropes, socio-political issues, and popular fictions. These narrative constructions operate within a delicate membrane where fictions and realities intersect, generating fresh interpretations and new meanings. Funder’s oeuvre is steeped in both written and unwritten histories, as well as a deep awareness of the paradoxes and complexities of societal engagement. His art explores temporal displacements, nonlinear storytelling, and the emergence of new, unconventional forms of memory. Through his work, Thilo Funder creates immersive spaces that enable unpredictable encounters with the political, temporal, and recollective. Funder received an MA from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts and The School of Art and Architecture at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is currently finishing a Doctorate program in Artistic Research at The Art Academy, Department of Contemporary Art, University of Bergen in Norway.
