A Tale of Two Thailands fa parte del progetto This History is Auto-Generated formato da una serie di video e un romanzo interattivo. Entrambi reinterpretano la storia politica della Thailandia utilizzando GPT-3, un generatore A testuale, per riformare e creare nuove narrazioni. L’artista ha fornito all’intelligenza artificiale informazioni sugli eventi politici tailandesi chiave del secolo scorso, invitandola a generare storie alternative. Successivamente ha trasformato tali narrazioni in una sceneggiatura e in film animati per immaginare delle alternative alla dittatura militare e al realismo capitalista.
A Tale of Two Thailands is a part of a project entitled This History is Auto-Generated consisting of a series of videos and an interactive novel. Both reinterpret Thailand’s political history by using GPT-3, a popular AI text generator, in order to rewrite and create new narratives. The artist trained the AI with a set of text about key Thai political events in the past century then let the AI generate alternative histories. He subsequently transformed those narratives into a screenplay for a series of machinima. Thanapornrapee’s goal was to imagine alternative possibilities to military dictatorship and capitalism realism.

Nanut Thanapornrapee è un artista visivo che utilizza immagini di repertorio e un approccio partecipativo per esplorare la meta-narrazione, la storia sociale e la tecnologia. Dopo una Laurea in Giornalismo e Comunicazione di massa con specializzazione in fotografia e cinematografia presso l’Università Thammasat, nel 2021 Thanapornrapee ha creato insieme a Baan Norg Collaborative Art and Culture HAWIWI: I Wish I Wrote a History che sfrutta tecniche meta-narrative per scrivere la storia di Ratchaburi attraverso un gioco di carte e la partecipazione collettiva degli studenti. Nel 2021 ha ricevuto il Prince Claus Seed Award e ha partecipato a un programma di laboratorio mobile nel contesto di Documenta 15.
THE ARTIST
Nanut Thanapornrapee is a visual artist who uses essay images and a participatory approach to explore the meta-narrative and history of people and technology. Thanapornrapee graduated in Journalism and Mass Communication (with a major in photography and filmmaking) at Thammasat University. In 2021 he participated with Baan Norg Collaborative Art and Culture to create HAWIWI: I Wish I Wrote a History which experiments on meta-narrative by writing a history of Ratchabur, a city in Western Thailand, via card game and participatory with locals including high schooler and elementary students. In 2021 he received the Prince Claus Seed Award and participated in a mobile lab program at Documenta 15.
