The Grannies è un cortometraggio documentario creato con/in Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar Games, 2018). Un gruppo di giocatori —Marigold Bartlett, Andrew Brophy, Ian MacLarty, Kalonica Quigley & friends aka The Grannies — si avventura oltre i confini del videogioco. Sbirciando dietro la tenda del mondo virtuale, scoprono uno spazio insolito ed etereo che rivela l’artificialità e la materialità delle creazioni digitali. Diretto da Marie Foulston e montato da Luke Neher, The Grannies è stato prodotto da Marie Foulston e Nick Murrayy. Dopo il debutto al Festival IDFA di Amsterdam il 18 novembre 2021, ha fatto parte della selezione ufficiale del London Short Film Festival 2022. The Grannies è stato commissionato per il festival Now Play This alla Somerset House nell’aprile 2020.
The Grannies is a documentary short film created with/in Red Dead Redemption 2 (Rockstar Games, 2018). A group of players — Marigold Bartlett, Andrew Brophy, Ian MacLarty, Kalonica Quigley & friends aka The Grannies — venture beyond the boundaries of the video game. Peeking behind the curtain of the game’s virtual world they discover a captivating and ethereal space that reveals the humanity and materiality of digital creations. Directed by Marie Foulston and edited by Luke Neher, the film was produced by Marie Foulston and Nick Murray. The Grannies premiered at IDFA in Amsterdam on November 18 2021 and was part of the official selection at the London Short Film Festival 2022. The Grannies was commissioned for Now Play This festival at Somerset House in April 2020.

Marie Foulston è una premiata curatrice e direttrice creativa di mostre, installazioni ed esperienze radicali. È specializzata in videogiochi, gioco e design e cultura digitale. È stata direttrice del festival Now Play This alla Somerset House, curatrice di videogiochi al V&A e Smithsonian Digital Scholarship Fellow. Ha uno studio indipendente e collabora come membro del collettivo di videogiochi sperimentali Wild Rumpus. Ha lavorato e fatto da consulente per una serie di organizzazioni internazionali tra cui Penguin Random House, Netflix, lo Smithsonian, la Game Developers Conference, il British Council, la Royal Opera House, il Design Museum, Channel 4, AGO e MoPOP. Marie Foulston is an award winning curator and creative director of radical exhibitions, installations and experiences. She specializes in videogames, play and digital design and culture. She was director of Now Play This festival at Somerset House, Curator of Videogames at the V&A and a Smithsonian Digital Scholarship Fellow. She maintains an independent practice and continue to collaborate as part of the experimental videogame collective Wild Rumpus. She worked alongside and consulted for a host of international organizations including Penguin Random House, Netflix, the Smithsonian, the Game Developers Conference, the British Council, the Royal Opera House, The Design Museum, Channel 4, the AGO and MoPOP. Her work has featured in Vogue, The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Wired, The Guardian and Edge Magazine. The Grannies is her first movie.
