Oggi, la “natura” è diventata un feticcio. Secondo la teoria della biofilia, gli esseri umani desiderano entrare in contatto con altre forme di vita perché l’amore per la natura è congenito. Ma come possiamo ottenere una simile comunione quando trascorriamo la maggior parte della nostra vita al chiuso, online, in contesti urbani, mentre il nostro pianeta sta collassando? E come possiamo far fronte alle crescenti ansie ambientali dovute all’inerzia delle istituzioni politiche di fronte alla catastrofe ecologica? Come possiamo “amare la natura” mentre guidiamo SUV e produciamo tonnellate di rifiuti? Creato con/in Grand Theft Auto V e Crazy Talk, Solastalgia esamina questa contraddizione, offrendo una terapia virtuale. Un medico guida il paziente attraverso una serie di sessioni video per superare la crescente alienazione della società dalla natura, o di quel che ne resta.
Today “nature” has become a fetish, an obsession. The Biophilia theory claims that humans have an urge to connect with other life forms and that the love for nature is deeply rooted within our genes. But how can we achieve such connection when we spend most of our lives indoors, in highly urbanized, artificial environments, as our planet enters the final stage of collapse? And how can we cope with increasing eco-anxiety due to the inertia of our institution in the face of ecological catastrophe? How can we love nature while we drive SUVs and produce waste like never before? Created with/in Grand Theft Auto V and Crazy Talk, Solastalgia examines this inner contradiction, providing an online therapeutic service for those who find themselves unable to handle the stress. A therapist guides the patient through a series of relaxing video sessions to tackle society’s growing alienation from (what remains of) nature.

THE ARTIST
Lena Windisch ha studiato Communication Design alla Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle Saale (2012-2017) e ha conseguito una laurea in Information Design. Ha ricevuto diversi premi, tra cui l'ico-D Excellence Award, il Distinction Art Directors Club e il Joseph Binder Award. Si è poi trasferita a Eindhoven, nei Paesi Bassi, per studiare alla Design Academy, dove ha completato il suo breve machinima Solastalgia. Windisch vive e lavora ad Amburgo, in Germania.
Lena Windisch studied Communication Design at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle Saale (2012-2017) and received an M.A Degree in Information Design. She received several awards for her work, including the ico-D Excellence Award, Distinction Art Directors Club, and the Joseph Binder Award. She then moved to Eindhoven, The Netherlands to study at the Design Academy, where she completed her short machinima Solastalgia. Windisch lives and works in Hamburg, Germany.
