Possessions è un video sperimentale creato con Grand Theft Auto V. L’artista ha utilizzato Open IV per estrarre voci e dialoghi dal gioco originale. La colonna sonora è di Suicidal Tendencies.

This experimental short film was created in/with Grand Theft Auto V. All voices and dialog are extracted from Grand Theft Auto V using Open IV. The soundtrack is by Suicidal Tendencies, captured live in the game.

L’ARTISTA

Nella pratica artistica di Brent Watanabe, tecniche e materiali tradizionali (disegno, scultura) si combinano con tecnologie emergenti (programmazione, elettronica), per sondare un territorio ancora da mappare. Da oltre un decennio Watanabe crea installazioni digitali in musei e gallerie d’arte che utilizzano sculture cinetiche, disegni, proiezioni e suoni. San Andreas Deer Cam (2016), uno dei suoi ultimi lavori, è stato trasmesso in diretta su internet ed è stato fruito da oltre 800.000 visitatori nei primi tre mesi dal lancio. Il progetto è stato discusso da innumerevoli pubblicazioni, tra cui New York Magazine, BBC e WIRED. Ha partecipato a numerose mostre collettive e rassegne a livello nazionale e internazionale, più recentemente al NTT InterCommunication Center (Tokyo, Giappone, 2018-19). Watanabe esposto le sue opere presso la SOIL Art Gallery (Seattle, WA, 2006), McLeod Residency (Seattle, WA, 2008), Jack Straw New Media Gallery (Seattle, WA, 2009), Gallery 4Culture (Seattle, WA, 2011), Anchor Art Space (Anacortes, WA, 2013), e Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival (Seattle, WA, 2016).

Brent Watanabe is an artist combining a background in traditional materials and practices (drawing, sculpture) with emerging technologies (computer programming, electronics), exploring an artistic field still uncharted. For over a decade, Watanabe has been creating computer-controlled gallery installations populated by kinetic sculpture, drawing, projection, and sound. One of his recent projects, San Andreas Deer Cam (2016), was streamed live on the internet, had over 800,000 visitors in the first three months, and was mentioned in several international publications, including New York Magazine, the BBC, and WIRED. Watanabe has participated in numerous group shows and screenings nationally and internationally, most recently at NTT InterCommunication Center (Tokyo, Japan, 2018-19). He has had recent solo exhibitions at SOIL Art Gallery (Seattle, WA, 2006), McLeod Residency (Seattle, WA, 2008), Jack Straw New Media Gallery (Seattle, WA, 2009), Gallery 4Culture (Seattle, WA, 2011), Anchor Art Space (Anacortes, WA, 2013), and Bumbershoot Music and Arts Festival (Seattle, WA, 2016).
